What is “D.I.S.H.?”

By Joe Perry

Tired, can’t lose weight, indigestion, poor sleep? It could be your “D.I.S.H.” — and we don’t mean the plate you put your food on! Knowing what’s behind this acronym can change your life!

There are four extremely important factors that have a dramatic effect on your overall health. It’s disappointing to know how often these things are overlooked…many times they are hidden and misinterpreted as ‘just being a part of my everyday life.’ The fact is, once you discover these important foundation stones for your success (or failure) in achieving more vibrant health. By filling these gaps, you can experience incredible changes, in just a few short weeks!

It’s important to remember that these four things are intimately linked to each other. They are like links in a chain – ‘only as strong as its weakest link.’

Digestion

It’s been said; “You are what you eat.” This is only partially true…you are what you eat, digest and assimilate. We need to pay attention to getting high quality nutrients, which include sufficient enzymes, fiber, probiotics to ensure good digestive health. It is also important to avoid irritants that can result in inflammation. These can include gluten, coffee, dairy, soy, etc.

Inflammation

As with many bodily processes, inflammation can be a good thing — in moderation. If it becomes chronic, it can affect digestion, heart health, liver function, fluid retention, fat loss, blood sugar, immune function and more.

Inflammation is many times ‘silent.’ We don’t realize that some symptoms we experience are signs of a deeper problem. Digestive issues are a good example. When you consider the consumer demand for OTC drugs for gas, bloating and indigestion alone — it’s staggering. Now let’s go a step further – these symptoms are many times caused by inflammation in the digestive tract. More than 70% of our immune function resides in our digestive tract. Can you see how inflammation can hinder your immune system?

Stress

Stress is making us sick, tired … and fat! It actually changes body chemistry, including hormone balances. Seventy-five percent to 90% of all doctor’s office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints! It can fuel cancer and raise the risk of heart attacks, and contribute to a host of other health problems.
One of the things stress has a big impact on is adrenal function. This causes deficiencies and imbalances of important hormones, including Adrenaline, Cortisol, Testosterone, Progesterone, DHEA, Estrogen, etc. When the adrenals become weak or exhausted, it can change your health in shocking ways!

Hormones

Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate and control many functions, from mood, growth, immune system, hunger, metabolism, and so much more. Supporting hormone levels is paramount to optimum health.

The use of ‘adaptogens’ is one of the exciting advances in supporting healthy hormone production. Although many adaptogens have been used for thousands of years, they are becoming more and more popular. The most well-researched include Ashwaganhda, Rhodiola, Cordyceps and Panax Ginseng. They are called adaptogens due to their unique ability to ‘adapt’ their function to the body’s specific needs…they help support function.

Getting your D-I-S-H balanced can be paramount to your health and vitality.
